You can retain 90% of everything you learn
When you’ve read something important or interesting, how can you retain it? Turns out, taking time to explain a complex concept to someone else is a brilliant way to further your understanding of that concept and hard wire it into your brain. As Seneca once said: “When we teach, we learn.”
Author Thomas Oppong turns this idea into a rule in this article on Medium. Oppong calls it the 50/50 rule – which says that you should learn for 50% of the time, then explain what you’ve learned for the remaining 50%.
