Apple just changed the way users read your emails

Apple has dropped a game-changer at their Worldwide Developers Conference: Apple Intelligence (AI).

This summer, Apple will roll out its version of artificial intelligence (AI) across iPhones, iPads, and Macs. Every app on these devices will feature built-in “Apple Intelligence“, and it’s going to revolutionise how people read your emails.

What this means for email on Apple devices

  1. Prioritised emails: AI will rearrange your users’ inboxes, changing the order of emails based on importance.
  2. Email Summaries: Each email in the inbox will now have a short summary.
  3. Summarise option: Users can choose to view a more detailed summary of an email when they open it.

In essence, you won’t control how users engage with your content any more.

  • No clear call to action? AI might not prioritise your email.
  • Too lengthy? Users may opt for a brief summary over reading long text.

Users will also be able to ask questions about your messages. With the tap of a button, they’ll open a supercharged version of Apple’s virtual assistant, Siri. The new Siri knows everything about you, based on the data that’s on your device. And it knows everything about the world, thanks to an integration with OpenAI’s chatbot, ChatGPT.  

So rather than pick up the phone to your contact centre or searching your website, users might ask their questions straight to Siri instead. Questions like:

  • ‘What retirement option should I pick from the retirement pack?’
  • ‘My interest rate has gone down, but what was it before?’
  • ‘What’s an uncrystallised funds pension lump sum? Should I take one?’

With Microsoft, Google and Samsung also rolling out AI features to their products, almost all of our digital interactions are on the verge of transformation.
