Emily Bate

Senior Writer & Workshop Leader

What do you do?

I read things, I write things, I rewrite things. I also help plan and deliver workshops for our clients.

Why do you do it?

I love writing. I love getting tangled up in language, and then finding my way out again. I love analysing what makes words work, and I love the feeling when the right sentence makes things make sense.

What projects have you worked on?

I joined Quietroom in April 2016. So far, I’ve designed a workshop for Which?, tackled a tricky customer letter for Irish Life, and written product brochures for AXA.

Which project are you most proud of?

I’m the relatively new kid on the block around here – come back to me in a few months and I’ll let you know!

What do you like to do when you’re not in work?

I can often be found shopping for stationery, or buying the shabbiest-looking books on the second-hand shelf. I’m a foreign language fan. I’m also a novice cook, an amateur calligrapher, and a wannabe hula hooper. Hula hoopist. Hula hooperator.

What’s a truth universally acknowledged?

A restaurant is only ever as good as its complimentary bread.
