Ben Tunningley – Film Maker
What do you do?
I use the moving image to tell textured stories – whether real lives in documentary, fictional situations in drama or in the created-from-scratch worlds of animation.
Why do you do it?
I’ve always loved film as a powerful collision of sound and vision – the way it digs deep into our emotions and transports us into the lives of others. And I was hooked by Star Wars at an impressionable age.
What do you like to do when you’re not at work?
I make music: writing, singing and playing guitar in a band. It’s another way to tell stories and explore emotions, but I love the challenge of doing it all in three minutes with rhymes and three-part harmonies.
What was your favourite moment in the cinema?
The dawning realisation that M Night Shyamalan had made a stealth sequel to one of my favourite films after 20 years. I leapt from my seat.
