Senior Writer and Workshop Leader
What do you do?
Well, I write. And I work with people who don’t think they’re writers to help them make their writing more effective.
Why do you do it?
When we’ve got a Big Decision to make – like filling in a tax return, or planning for the future – we put it off. Sometimes we’re distracted by something that we’d rather be doing, and sometimes we don’t have the information we feel as though we need. So I’m interested in what it is that gets people to act – in what they want to see or hear or know before they make that call.
Which projects have you worked on?
This week I’ve run workshops to help people from an insurer understand their new tone of voice, and got to grips with a new glossary for customers of a financial services business.
What do you do when you’re not at work?
I live near the river and I accidentally took up rowing a few years ago. I’ve persisted, despite possessing none of the attributes associated with successful oarsmen – like impressive height, or a ruddy, outdoorsy constitution.
Who is your desert island author?
I think the bleakness of Cormac McCarthy would come as welcome distraction from the unrelenting sunshine.Back
