What do you do?
I manage the day-to-day running of the business. I make sure our clients are happy and our team are busy. I price work and plan out how long it will take. I think about how we go about delivering exceptional work. I keep an eagle eye on projects while they’re running. And I measure success by talking to clients at the end of each piece of work to see what went well and how we could do better next time.
Why do you do it?
No one else would have me. And a deep and abiding love of words, in particular the endless possibilities and peculiarities of the English language. I quite like Excel spreadsheets too.
Which projects have you worked on?
I’ve been doing this for over 25 years now. So I’ve worked on large projects, sitting round beautifully crafted tables with actuaries, lawyers and trustees. I’ve worked on medium-sized projects with slim timelines. And I’ve worked on small projects for people with big ideas.
What do you like to do when you're not at work?
I’m on the management board of the writers’ collective 26. I initiate and run creative writing projects like Throwaway Lines, 26 Miles and 26 Writers in Residence. I take part in others like 26 Twits, 26 Words, 26 Liars and 12x12x62.
What can’t you live without?
